About Port Lincoln Sardine

Port Lincoln Sardine is a proudly family-owned and operated business based in Port Lincoln, South Australia.

Fishing has been part of our family's life for generations. That experience, combined with a passion for innovation, has shaped the business we are today. Every decision we make is driven by a simple goal—to produce the highest quality Australian wild-caught sardines possible.

In 2026, we launched Pelorus, our purpose-built freezing vessel, representing a significant investment in the future of Australian seafood. By freezing our sardines on board within minutes of harvest using advanced Individual Quick Freezing (IQF) technology, we're able to lock in the freshness, flavour and quality of every catch before it ever reaches shore.

Today, Port Lincoln Sardine supplies premium wild-caught sardines to seafood wholesalers, retailers, restaurants, recreational bait suppliers and pet food manufacturers across Australia. Whether they're destined for the dinner plate, the tackle box or premium pet nutrition, every product is handled with the same care and attention to quality.

While our methods continue to evolve, our values remain unchanged. We believe in hard work, honesty, continuous improvement and producing a product we're proud to put our family name on.

From our family to yours, thank you for supporting Australian seafood.

Our History

Peter White is a pioneer of the South Australian sardine industry in 1990 and was one of the first two fisherman to catch sardines in South Australia using the purse seine method. Over the years Peter has experimented and refined the process for both finding and catching sardines and upgraded equipment to be able to safely handle and more efficiently catch sardines, starting off with a 40ft plywood vessel in the experimental years then upgraded to an 50ft ex prawn trawler moving on to a  65ft ex tuna pole vessel and finally converting a 100ft tuna vessel to purse seine. Then experimenting with sardines for human consumption and the beginning of Port Lincoln Sardine.

In 2018 Marcus and Toby White took over Port Lincoln Sardine and continued to build on their fathers business. To this day Marcus and Toby continue to experiment and innovate different ways of handling and processing sardines and creating new products with a strong focus on the environment and sustainability.
